Nightford Mountains

From PathfinderWiki

The Nightford Mountains are a range of mountains in the monstrous nation of Chu Ye that almost bisect the country running east to west. The range is north of the Chuyokai Forest1 and home to many species of giant,2 some of whom form part of the mercenary army supporting the nation's leader, Shogun Tsuneni.3

In culture

Meltwater from the Nightford Mountains joins with floodwaters in the early summer to make rice a major crop in Chu Ye,4 while ice slabs carried down from the mountains in the winter replenish supplies of fresh water and are sculpted into artwork during the nation's ice festival.5

History

In 164 IC, the four brothers of Budugan led an army of ogres and giants from the Nightford Mountains to Hongal, a devastating battle that also inspired Ikhnazan to unite Hongal's scattered tribes and retaliate to found the nation's khanate.6

The range is home to Nightford Shrine, home of the kishin oni Inma, which is tucked into a hidden valley near the range's tallest peak.7 Inma's fortress in the mountain is home to her treasure vault and a menagerie of strange beasts and aberrations.8

This menagerie once included Zhulong, an underworld dragon captured as a wyrmling who escaped and now plots vengeance against her. Recent battles between Zhulong and Inma have generated earthquakes and volcanic activity in the Nightford Mountains.8
