Helping Out

Thanks for letting me know about art that was uploading was not allowed under the CUP, I didn't know that. I have flagged the two pieces of work for deletion. I'm looking to help out on this website and contribute what I can. I saw that under the Adventure Paths that there are stubs that need to be expanded upon. What is the procedure to update those? I saw that the NPC gallery, items and a brief summary of each section was in the article, but I wanted to check before I put information out there that might not be allowed under the CUP. Thanks!

Sarrick (talk) 20:21, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

I'll get those images removed then. Thanks for understanding (we often get people who ragequit the project when they find out we have such limits on image use or copy/pasting text straight out of Paizo books).
As for stubs, we would ideally have a sentence or two describing the contents of each article and possibly linking to relevant content elsewhere on the wiki. For the most part, no one has gone through the issues to compose these, but it would certainly increase the quality of the product articles to have such content added. Check out What Lies in Dust for an example of a completed article. If you model other product pages after that, we can establish some consistency across similar articles. —Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 20:42, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Season 2 and 3 Metaplot

Hey there Yoda,

I saw under the Season 4 summary that there is a column named "Metaplot". For Season 2 and 3, since they are the "Year of <Insert name here>", does it make sense to add those in, or did you only want to do that for Season 4 since it was fully announced on the Paizo Blog? I've seen a few good articles of the metaplots in Season 3 as well as some scenarios that tie into Season 4. Just wanted your opinion before I put those in there and then found out that it was too revealing to the scenarios of Season 3.Sarrick (talk)

I'm not the one who added that column to that article, so I don't know what the intention of the Chronicler in question was. But since we have a Be bold policy, I encourage you to make whatever edits you feel would make the wiki a more useful resource. In this case, we're not talking about something in-world that has clear canon implications and needs citations, so you should be able to do whatever you want on the Pathfinder Society season overview pages. —Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 02:54, 11 April 2013 (MSK)

Comics

Hi Yoda8myhead, did you know the category you recently created called Category:Comics by series‎ is a duplicate of the one already set up called Category:Comics by volume? Do we need both or have you a master plan yet to be revealed? --Fleanetha (talk) 20:47, 18 April 2013 (MSK)

I don't really know what a "volume" means in this context, and only time will tell how Dynamite uses the term. We may need to merge the two in the future, but we tend to use the terms series for APs or other linked stories, so that's what I went with. —Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 23:53, 18 April 2013 (MSK)
I actually now know what "volume" means, and it's not the same as series. If they relaunched the Pathfinder comic in a year with issue 1 all over again, that would likely be considered volume 2. Since we don't have such relaunches of the same title comic, I say we avoid the use of volume at all on the wiki, as that's likely to just confuse people.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 19:37, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
I see the new categories you set up recently..."Comics by XXX". Instead of the {{Book}} template that auto-generates the "Works by XXX" categories and then manually add the new categories, would you like a new template, say {{Comic}} that serves roughly the same function as {{Book}}, but can be customized to the particulars of comics? I can whip one up for you pretty easily. It could allow sections for Writer, Artist, Colors, Letters (as desired) and auto-generate the categories. Back in May I kludged the Book template to fit some of the needs of comics, but depending on what your interest/plans are for the comics pages, we might be able to get you the tools to do it more easily. -- FoiledAgain (talk) 19:17, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
If anything, I'd like to see book have some interaction between the "type" parameter and other parameters. If we did that, then the same template could look to see if and then add categories Category:Comics by XXX instead of Artwork by XXX (which I don't think is the correct category to automatically add anyway, as the book isn't artwork) and Works by XXX. That said, I think we still benefit from having both works by and comics by, because one is a subset of the other (i.e. Category:Works by Erik Mona should include both the subcategory Category:Comics by Erik Mona and the Goblins! 1 article itself.
But! Since it's really complicated to make {{Book}} look for what type of book is being cited, it might be easiest just to duplicate the template under the {{Comic}} name and leave how it works the same (so we can just swap the templates instead of redoing all existing comic infoboxes) with a few additions.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 19:37, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
I'm really procrastinating on starting the ISWGII for Brevoy, so an interactive {{Book}} may be worth playing with in a sandbox. -- FoiledAgain (talk) 19:41, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

CUP & Empyreal Lords

Hi Mark

It would be lovely if we could get the holy symbols published in Chronicle of the Righteous (sourcebook) into the CUP so we could add them all here. I have made a request at Paizo formally here:

http://paizo.com/products/btpy8xe9/discuss&page=10?Pathfinder-Campaign-Setting-Chronicle-of-the-Righteous#495

but I know you can pull of minor miracles especially around artwork so am highlighting to you as well.

Any help in this would be appreciated please, I am sure, by all.

Thanks,

J --Fleanetha (talk) 11:41, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

(DM Corerue (talk) 12:31, 16 November 2013 (UTC))

Thank you for the welcome and I will be primarily focusing on the Distant Worlds section of the wiki starting with Triaxus as it is one of my favorite worlds. I will do my best not to infringe on the rights or break any rules and appreciate any helpful advice you all may have. Thank you very much and I hope I become a worthy asset to the community!

Sending out the Yodabot Signal!

Dearest Yoda8myhead,
I believe Yodabot could be of some help. Paizo seems to have changed all some of the links for the product pages in their Modules line as well as some other products, which means that some of our external links just lead to the Paizo homepage. Is this something which could be automated?
Many thanks, Brandingopportunity (talk) 04:13, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Nope, not something that can be automated, unless you provide a document with each existing (broken) URL on the wiki with the correct target to replace it with. At that point, it's likely easiest just to change them manually. Is it an issue with the short links (i.e.. paizo.com/~abcdefg) not working? If so, that's a known issue and Paizo intends (or at least intended) to correct things so they work again.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 04:43, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

"Insider" knowledge needed

I was setting up the Towns of the Inner Sea page when I came to a halt on the credits. A search of paizo.com didn't get me current info, so I was wondering if Matt Vancil is a Paizo employee? Thanks! FoiledAgain (talk) 01:16, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

He's one of the writers for "The Gamers" movies (and the other Dead Gentlemen Productions films) In the past they've been labeled more as 'friends of the company' on the boards-- Cpt kirstov (talk) 16:05, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
An astute search of past PDFs will find his name among those who formerly worked in the Paizo warehouse, but Matt is not currently employed at Paizo, save as a temporary warehouse monkey when things get especially busy and he's available. He is now primarily working as creative director for Dead Gentlemen Productions, for whom Paizo serves as the publisher of their DVDs.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 23:09, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, Yoda8myhead. You would think I'd know to check out the PDF credits...I've only been scouring them ever since I met Ashley at Big Kyle's pre-Paizocon bash to see when her first in-print credit would come through. Also, thanks Cpt kirstov for the reminder of his cinematic cred. FoiledAgain (talk) 01:26, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Pathfinder Society Summaries - How much is too much?

Hey Yoda,

I posted up Mark S.'s Pathfinder Society Season summaries that he created up on the individual PFS season's pages(Season 0 summary, Season 1 Summary, Season 2 summary, Season 3 summary, Season 4 summary, Season 5 summary). I am still working on completing the hyperlinks to other canon material, but before I go too far, I wanted to get your approval on the amount of information that I brought over, since you were at one point developing the scenarios. As well, someone asked the same question on the Paizo Forums.

Are you OK with all of it coming over or do you want some pieces withheld? Personally, my honest opinion, I believe all of it is OK to come over as it doesn't mention where the plot points fall in relation to each scenario in each season. To create an example, if you were to look up, say, the TV series Game of Thrones on Wikipedia, you will see that each season has a overview summary but then goes into each episode and what happens when. I think doing each individual scenario's (Or episode in the case of Game of Thrones) plot points would be going too far, but I believe a high-level season summary wouldn't be too bad. What are your thoughts?--Sarrick (talk) 16:30, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

I agree with you about the overview summaries being like a season summary from a TV show. That's actually a comparison I've made before. I think such a summary should cite the sources of what it claims occurred, since that's a standard we hold for all in-world POV articles on the wiki. I just had a chat with John Compton about it, and he's in agreement. As long as the citations appear at the end of the article, he's cool with it.
I'm going to make some stylistic edits to Season 3 summary that will illustrate how I'd personally like to see these articles structured, worded, and cited. If you agree that it's an appropriate direction for the resource, you could use it as a template for the other seasons.
Both John and I feel it's important not to reveal anything from the current season, as we want people to be able to use these references to catch up on the "story so far" and then play the current material, rather than get an overview of what's going on and decide if they want to play or not. —Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 19:11, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

Pathfinder RPG Pawn Sets

Hey Yoda,

Thanks for the help on clearing up the language that I used in the Year of the Risen Rune! I am still in the process of getting information from the scenarios that don't tie in directly into the listed plot summaries (about 6 or 7 left), but I greatly appreciate your help!

A quick question I had for you, I made a listing of all of the Pathfinder RPG items on the description page for the Pathfinder RPG, to match the Pathfinder Campaign Setting, Pathfinder Player Companion, and Pathfinder Modules. I did notice, however, that the RPG pawn boxes don't have a item page nor aren't listed in the navbox for the RPG line. Can I make new pages for those or do you want those listed somewhere else like a listing under the Pathfinder Battles line or do you not want them listed at all? I don't mind adding them at all, I was just curious if you knew why they were listed or even had item pages. Thanks!--Sarrick (talk) 16:31, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

There's no reason they haven't been added other than that no one has done it yet. They are their own product line (Pathfinder Pawns) and should be added as such. We'll need to update {{Book}} to autocategorize them, which is one reason I haven't added them, card sets, or Pathfinder Battles content yet. I intend to add all of them eventually, but was holding off until I'd taken care of some other tasks. If you want to add them, go ahead and do so. —Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 17:46, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
The work-in-progress looks great. The template seems to work well. I do wonder if there is a better way to link to the product page. I'm also tempted to dig into new templates for items like this, pawns, PACG, maps, etc. that really aren't books, but have had the {{Book}} template forced into service for them. --FoiledAgain (talk) 01:20, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Portal: Sourcebooks Idea

Hey Yoda,

I came up with some new formatting/styling ideas for the Portal:Sourcebooks page and wanted to get your opinion. When you have some time, you mind taking a look at it and giving me your thoughts/feedback? I agree that the portal is very "blah" and is armed to kill anyone reading it with it's massive wall of text, anyone with a DC 5 Perception check can clearly spot it's a trap. I was thinking of maybe changing the formatting a bit and changing some of the links to more relevant information. I created the document in Visio and then converted it to a PDF so if you want to tweak my ideas, we can definitely go back to the drawing board with it.

The only e-mail address I have for you is your Paizo one, but if you have a different e-mail address or a different way to contact you (Skype, or Gmail) that you'd prefer for me to use, let me know. Thanks! --Sarrick (talk) 14:17, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

I'd be happy to give it a look. You can send it to me at this user name at gmail or to my Paizo email. Either one is fine. You may also want to make a sandbox subpage of your user page and do your tinkering there so it's live and others can see it. —Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 16:21, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
I finished the work you started on the Adventures Portal. I think it looks GREAT, we'll just have to keep up with it. What's next on our list? Do you want to re-do the Portal: Sourcebooks page like the Adventures one? Or do we want to work on the accessory pages first? Do you have a list of Portals you want to do? Here's what I have so far:
* Sourcebooks (To include Player Companion, Campaign Setting, Pathfinder Roleplaying Game)
* Pathfinder Adventure Card Game (To include products as well as information on the newly announced organized play)
* Miniatures (To include all sets [But no individuals], Pawns)
* Audio Drama (To include all products)
* Fiction (To include web fiction and books)
* Flip-Maps (To include Gamemastery, Pathfinder, and Flip-Maps)
* Item Cards (To include Item cards, face cards, chase cards, Harrow deck, buff/debuff cards)
Let me know and I'll start working on it!--Sarrick (talk) 18:51, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
I think the maps and item cards can be compiled with miniatures and pawns onto a single Accessories portal. None of them tell stories or contribute new information to canon, and exist to aid people in playing the game itself. As such, they're similar enough that a single portal should cover everything regarding them. I fear that if we make too many portals, we run the risk of diluting the wiki's contents too much. I think the audio dramas should be rolled into the fiction portal, as they're a sort-of cross between an audio book and a novelization of the original AP content. Right now let's focus on the Sourcebooks portal, since we have a template for it (Adventures). Covering those three product lines sounds perfect. I'm going to be focusing a bit on PFO with the other admins and the GW guys, but will keep an eye on your work, and drop in when you're done with that to decide what to do next. —Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 19:49, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Hey Yoda, I added the new Pathfinder Campaign Logo to the Wiki, but then I noticed the old one was named differently. I re-uploaded the new logo and gave it the same name but I don't know how to delete (or if I can) the old upload I did. Could you delete that for me? Sorry for the inconvenience, --Sarrick (talk) 14:30, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Voice Samples and categorization

Hello Yoda8myhead, in going through the 'wanted categories' list, I've found you have categorized (well the auto categorization of the template used has categorized) the audiobook voice samples as 'artwork'. While I suppose in some sense they are artwork, that category is pretty much for pictures. I won't set up the categories for these just yet then. Prefect solution would be a new category for audio files and a new template. What do you think?

Here is a link to one of them: File:Merisiel voice sample.mp3 --Fleanetha (talk) 09:31, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Adventure Card Game Portal

Hey Yoda, When you get a second, can you take a look at my Sandbox page? I've taken the standard set up for the Sourcebooks and the Adventures portals and integrated the Adventure Card Game into it. Let me know what you think. I do need a couple things from you, if possible.

I had to grab pictures of the promo cards from the internet as Paizo didn't have many of them posted in the store or on a blog somewhere. Is there a way you could get the art for those cards put on the wiki by chance? If not, anyway you could incorporate them into a blog post in the future?. As well, I think there is a slight bug in my code for getting the Promo cards to swap between the previous, current, and next. The Adventure Card Game products swap without an issue, but my promo cards don't. I would have posted it on the main Adventure Card Game portal page if I was able to get that fixed. Any chance you could take a look and see if there is something I am missing on that? I figured I'd ask the person who came up with that layout ;)

Thanks for the help!--Sarrick (talk) 18:03, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Mobile theme bug

Hey Mark, I noticed that Armored exhibits the mobile theme bug when viewing it while logged out. I'm trying to nail down the cause of it, and it's the most recent page I've seen so far that exhibits it. Do you recall anything about how the page was created? Did you happen to create it on a mobile device, or in a browser that would have normally fetched the mobile theme? Anything unusual happen in that page's creation? Thanks! --Oznogon (talk) 21:06, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

... and now it doesn't, probably because I edited it. Still, anything weird about its creation? --Oznogon (talk) 21:07, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
Not that I know of. This is an issue that's been plaguing random pages now for quite a while. I'll run a touch script with my bot and see if that eliminates the problem. I have never personally run into it, though many at Paizo and elsewhere have, so I won't know if it works, but if it doesn't work, please let me know.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 23:15, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
It seems like some sort of caching bug, in any case. I'll keep poking at it. Thanks! --Oznogon (talk) 00:33, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
Figured out what was wrong with my steps to reproduce and updated them. I can reliably reproduce the problem now by purging a page while logged out from a mobile device. It likewise also affects mobile rendering when I purge a page from a desktop browser. Clearly something's up with how mediawiki is applying or caching the themes. I'm not sure what the fix would be here; I don't know what's powering the mobile theme on the back end, but there might be some workarounds using other features of Extension:MobileFrontend and a dedicated mobile domain, like m.pathfinderwiki.com. --Oznogon (talk) 20:27, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
Can you raise this issue in the workshop section of chat? I'll point Aeakett to it, as he's our tech and server guy. That said, if you know what you're doing with servers and extensions and all that, I don't have a problem with providing you access if none of the other admins do. You've already proven to be a valuable member of the community with a talent for dealing with technical issues, so if that's something you excel at, I don't think we should hold you back from using those talents.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 22:42, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
Will do, and thanks. I'm not sure if I'd say I know what I'm doing with extensions, though. :D --Oznogon (talk) 08:36, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

PFS navbox

Looks like we had the same idea at the same time! Is it OK if I swap out the navbox for one using the transcluded PFS scenario product lists? --Oznogon (talk) 22:44, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Yes —Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 00:27, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Web chat

I'm aware of the chat problems and working on a solution when I get home. Short story is Freenode, which hosts the web client, changed the web client (which we embed and have no control over) and the Mediawiki extension isn't updated to address it.

I'll either modify the extension and send the patch upstream, find a different chat extension everyone can agree on, or write a custom gadget to embed a better self-hostable webchat client. -Oznogon (talk) 01:31, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

Playtest Heroes mini images

Hey Yoda, are there web sources for images of the Playtest Heroes miniatures set? -Oznogon (talk) 07:01, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Yup! icv2! Not being able to cite stuff when it's uploaded is the one downside to the mass uploader. We'll get a blog and product page up for these on paizo.com soon.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 08:52, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
