Archetype

From PathfinderWiki
Imrijka, a ranger of the vindicator archetype.

While most adventurers are primarily defined by their class, some find that the training available to them through their class is not sufficient. For those adventurers, archetypes provide specialized training paths that allow them to diversify their skills.

All archetypes contain prerequisites that an adventurer must meet before they pursue the training, such as the ability to cast spells of a certain magical tradition or membership in a specific organization. When one dedicates themself to an archetype, they must receive a certain amount of training before they can seek out a new archetype.

Some archetypes are so fundamental to an adventurer's career that they alter the core training an adventurer receives as part of their class. These are called class archetypes.12
