Ardax the White-Hair—sometimes written as Ardax of the White-Hair,1 Ardax the White Hair,2 or Ardax Whitehair3—is a rare sight in the Hold of Belkzen: a middle-aged orc. As of 4724 AR he served as overlord of Urgir, having risen to this position in 4716 AR after his predecessor Grask Uldeth was slain by a mysterious assassin. Prior to that, he was Uldeth's chief advisor and majordomo and handled most of the business that was deemed unworthy of the boss' personal attention.45

Unlike Uldeth before him, Ardax at first controlled the city and the Closed Fist, but not his tribe, which has given him more time to coordinate improvements to Urgir itself, like the discovery of ancient dwarven weapon caches and a herd of rust monsters who now patrol the city.1

In 4719 AR, when the recently freed Whispering Tyrant sent envoys to recruit the orcs of Belkzen again, like he did fifteen centuries before, Ardax mounted the envoys' heads on the walls of Urgir. When the Tyrant later sent an undead army to subjugate them by force, he recruited several orc holds and led the united force to victory in the Battle of Nine Broken Skulls.1

After the victory, all holds accepted him as their Overlord, surpassing Uldeth.6 Ardax controls who has access to the city of Urgir and oversees talks with foreign governments as if he were a head-of-state, even though Belkzen has no central government.7 This has included meeting and diplomatic communications with New Thassilon and Oprak6 as well as former orc foes in the Knights of Lastwall8 and dwarves of the Five Kings Mountains.9
