Compsognathus
(Creature)

The compsognathus is a tiny, carnivorous dinosaur that somewhat resembles a bird with a snake-like neck and head. It moves swiftly on powerful legs and is an accomplished swimmer.123

Appearance

A typical specimen is 3 feet long, including its tail, and weighs 15 pounds. They move in darting motions.23

Habitat and ecology

They hunt in packs of up to 20,1 and employ venomous bites that causes numbness in their victims and weakens them, which they use to take down larger prey when necessary. However, they prefer to scavenge or hunt smaller creatures, such as insects.23

Compsognathuses are naturally very curious, which often gets them into trouble.23 Most conflicts between explorers and compsognathuses occur when a compsognathus explores a wagon or bedroll that inadvertently surprises adventurers and provokes a defensive reaction from the compsognathus.2

Society

A compsognathus is small enough to be a house pet or familiar. As mundane pets, they can be partially tamed but should be treated as a pet venomous reptile, such as a viper.23
