Meta:Aspis Consortium
Badge
The usage of File:Aspis badge.jpg without context has led to confusion that necessitated clarification from Paizo staff.
Per Luis Loza on a Reddit post in March 2024, the image File:Aspis badge.jpg depicts a non-standard Aspis Consortium badge specific to an NPC in The Bronze House Reprisal and indicates an alliance between that specific NPC and a group of Magnimarian Lissalans. A standard Aspis Consortium badge should lack any Thassilonian imagery, such as the sihedron or phoenix.1
This detail is not stated in The Bronze House Reprisal. The image is displayed on page 15 without a caption and beneath an unrelated sidebar. No text in the scenario provides any context or describes any modifications to any Aspis Consortium badges, nor the significance or exceptional nature of those modifications. Neither Loza nor the scenario's text specify which NPC bears this modified badge; the badge appears on a page describing Aspis bronze agent Elysi Crispin, and bronze agent Melnat Glimsilk is previously described as carrying an Aspis Consortium badge, but no text for either NPC describes those badges' appearance or that any Aspis badges are modified to depict an alliance with Lissalans. The only mention of such an alliance is in the background information on page 3, and the word "sihedron" never appears in the scenario's text.
The only confirmation that the pictured badge is either non-standard, related to this agreement, or specific to only the events of The Bronze House Reprisal is through Loza's canon clarification. However, since the wiki's usage of that image to represent the Aspis Consortium has led to misinformation, I've removed it from this article. It should remain on Bronze House but with this additional context.
Because neither Paizo nor a contributor has provided licensed artwork of an Aspis badge, the article must now go without artwork. Per Loza, an example of a generic badge is visible on Absalom, City of Lost Omens 67; in addition to lacking Thassilonian symbols, this badge also appears to be made of stone rather than bronze and depicts a serpent that lacks scales. -Oznogon (talk) 01:07, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

- ↑ " If you're referring to the Aspis badge featured on the Aspis Consortium page of the Pathfinder Wiki, that's a very specific badge. That badge belongs to a specific NPC in a Pathfinder Society Scenario (7-03, The Bronze House Reprisal). In that scenario, an Aspis group allied with a group of Lissala worshipers local to Magnimar. This badge includes Thassilonian symbols as a sign of this alliance. The standard Aspis Consortium badge does not feature any of this additional iconography. Imagine the badge on the wiki page, but it's lacking the sihedron and phoenix icon. If you have a copy of Lost Omens Absalom, you can see a generic version of the Aspis badge on page 67. In other words, the one featured on the wiki happens to be a unique badge. The Aspis Consortium normally has not connections to Thassilon." Luis Loza. (March 12, 2024).
