King Thabsing Blood-Eye is the Mbe'ke king of the port city of K'lereng and, according to some, a strong candidate to become the next High King of Cloudspire and leader of his people.1

History

Thabsing was born in the Mbe'ke port city of K'lereng to humble sailor parents, and he soon followed in their footsteps, sailing aboard a Mbe'ke merchant ship.

His life changed forever when his ship was captured by pirates off of Mediogalti Island. After a long and bloody battle the pirates won, they began executing their dwarven prisoners. When asked for his last words, Thabsing replied that it was a good thing that the pirates were about to kill him, as, if left alive, he swore he would see every single one of them hung. The pirates were so impressed by his audacity that they let him live, instead taking his eye as tribute.

As soon as Thabsing returned home, he began making good on his promise, becoming renowned as a grim and merciless fighter. He soon rose to leadership of the Bloodmarked Fellowship, the most famed warrior fellowship of K'lereng.1

When the Second Corsair War broke out in 4695 AR, the people of K'lereng decided that they needed a warrior for a leader, and their Assembly of Speakers elected Thabsing Blood-Eye as their new king. For the last 29 years, Thabsing has led the Mbe'ke people's anti-piracy efforts, spearheaded military campaigns, planned traps and ambushes, and sank numerous pirate ships.1

Appearance

Thabsing Blood-Eye is a hale and hearty Mbe'ke dwarf approaching late middle age. During daily life he wears a crimson eye patch to cover his missing eye; in battle he removes it in an indimidating display, as his old wound leaks blood whenever Thabsing overexerts himself.1

Associates

Thabsing is often aboard his flagship, the Kept Oath, and is often accompanied by his close cloud dragon allies Herssiniekl Snapwing and Corssilmiriez the West Wind.1

Personality

Given his fearsome reputation, those who meet Thabsing are often surprised. He is a quiet, urbane dwarf, softly spoken, who possess a great passion and deep understanding of cultures from across Avistan and Garund. He has a wry sense of humour and a love of Mbe'ke tangle-tales, and often uses his own fearsome reputation to enhance these stories.

Thabsing's demeanour changes when talk turns to pirates, bringing forth a seething anger and boundless hatred. While Thabsing is not evil, decades of warfare have left him with little mercy for the pirates who have plagued his entire life. Some see use in this hatred, believing that Thabsing would make an excellent High King who could end the Corsair Wars by making the hard, bloody decisions that the Assembly of Kings will not.

For his part, Thabsing has come to doubt over his decades of experience that a conventional war would ever truly succeed. As long as gold and trade flows from the Mbe'ke, and desperate sailors have coves to hide in, he fears that piracy will always be a problem. Thabsing has begun to be persuaded by Mage-King Khawu1 and his aeromantic scheme to realign the Eye of Abendego to cover and drown pirate kingdoms of the Shackles.2
