Dagger

From PathfinderWiki
Merisiel solves most of her problems with daggers. Here, she solves the problem of a pack of pygmy keches.

A dagger—known by many names, including dirk—is an easily concealable fighting knife often less than one foot long. Daggers might have one or two edges, or curved or straight blades, and have many variants. They can be wielded in melee combat or thrown.1

Variants

Emil Kovkorin wields a punching dagger in his left hand.

The dagger pistol combines a coat pistol with a dagger blade.2

Hunga mungas, which also have many names, are three-bladed daggers designed for throwing.3

The small kerambit is a curved dagger with a metal loop that aids in concealment.3

A lungchuan tamo consists of two throwing daggers concealed in a baton.4

Punching daggers, or katars, incorporate a perpendicular hilt that allows them to be wielded in a fist grip.5

A quadrens is a dagger-like weapon with four spikes in place of a blade, and are capable of dealing messy wounds and punching through armor.5

The swordbreaker dagger has a jagged-toothed blade designed to catch a foe's blade to disarm them.6

On Golarion

The size, ease of use, concealability, and flexibility of daggers make them some of the most common and universal weapons on Golarion.

Notable daggers

The empyreal lord Vildeis wields a magic dagger known as Cicatrix.7

A Daggermark blade is commissioned by the Daggermark Assassins' Guild to help assassins complete their assignments.8

Deskari's Tooth binds the soul of a creature inside its blade, and consumes it if the wielder's life is endangered.9

In religion

The religious symbol of Calistria consists of three daggers.

Many deities favor daggers, including Pharasma,10 Ydersius,11 Alseta,12 Gyronna,13 Yuelral,14 Naderi,15 Thamir Gixx,16 Kitumu,17 Cthulhu,18 Nyarlathotep,19 Shub-Niggurath,20 Yog-Sothoth,20 Alazhra,21 and The Lantern King.22

Other divine entities also favor the dagger, including the demon lords Mestama23 and Shax;24 malebranche Alichino;25 Queen of the Night Ardad Lili;26 daemonic harbingers Aesdurath, Corosbel, and Mneoc;27 and empyreal lords Eritrice28 and Vildeis.7

Calistrians can invoke their goddess to enhance a triple-stinging blade, while others who attempt to do so face painful consequences.29
