Of the countless existing martial sects of Quain, the Four Great Sects stand out as the strongest and most influential. The only higher powers in Quain are the Council of Recanters and the monarch emeritus.1

Structure

The member factions of the Four Great Sects have few similarities and each espouses different martial techniques and philosophies. However, each is headed by a grandmaster cultivator and links their power to one of the four seasons. The sects dominate their respective seasons as they experience a surge in power that benefits their practitioners.2

Cloud Crane School

The Cloud Crane School is an academy headmastered by the samsaran instructor Yun E1 and dominates spring. One percent of the academy's several hundred yearly graduates eventually ascend to grandmaster status, which means a significant portion of Quain's exclusive 1,000 existing grandmasters are Cloud Crane School alumni.2

Divine Chaos Cult

The Divine Chaos Cult is a quasi-religious sect led by the easy-going kitsune Konton1 and dominates summer. The cult has no central philosophy, save for the philosophy of having no central philosophy.2

Enduring Jade Clan

The Enduring Jade Clan is a vast dynasty led by the Yu Family matriarch Yu Hua1 and dominates fall. The clan and its central Yu Family build upon and pass secret martial techniques down the generations.2

Shadow Tongue Temple

The Shadow Tongue Temple is a night bat sect headed by the human slayer Wu Ku1 and dominates winter. The temple is the most feared of the already-dreaded nocturnal night bat sects.2
