Wen
King Wen was the last hereditary monarch to rule of the Successor State of Quain in Tian Xia before the nation moved away from this system of rule.1
Background
Unlike many other kings, King Wen desired daughters rather than sons, for it was believed only a royal maiden could complete the 12-year Wish-Cycle in the Ceremony of the Celestial Dragon and exchange her heart for a celestial pearl, which has the power to grant a single wish. The last time a king of Quain was unable to obtain a celestial pearl (when the ceremony was disrupted by Burning Cloud Devil in 7199 IC) Quain suffered 12 years of natural calamities and other misfortunes.2
After an edition of the Ruby Phoenix Tournament, recanters of Quain discovered that a grandmaster cultivator could also produce a celestial pearl by sacrificing their accumulated power, avoiding the need to sacrifice an innocent life. The grandmaster performing the sacrifice becomes the monarch emeritus and selects their successor after 12 years of leadership.1
Wen was last known to still be in power in 7211 IC.2 His fate after these changes to Quain's rule is unknown.
Possessions
King Wen claims to be in possession of a 93-foot-long scroll that proves his direct descent from Mu Lung, the mythical first emperor of the Tian people 11,000 years ago.3
