Ihoblyqaerth was an ancient underworld dragon whose legendary wrath, and subsequent defeat and transformation into the Mount Shibotai volcano, near the end of the Age of Ashes contributed to further fragmentation of the Minatan Archipelago.1

Background

Ihoblyqaerth's disproportionate aggression started in -24 IC23 over the minor grievance of a sea dragon hatchling spoiling an alchemical spring. This began a destructive battle between Ihoblyqaerth and hundreds of sea dragons. Earthquakes, tsunamis, and floods plagued Minata during this time. Despite their numbers, the sea dragons were overwhelmed by Ihoblyqaerth's might and slaughtered. The survivors appealed to the god Hei Feng, who put an end to Ihoblyqaerth's rampage with a single swing of his broadsword. The dragon then transformed into the great Mount Shibotai volcano and violently erupted, causing more devastation to Minata.1

The eruption covered the skies in ash, and the event's similarities to Earthfall's millennium of darkness instilled dread across Tian Xia, though to the inhabitants' relief the skies cleared within a few months.13 In the aftermath, some Minatans joined the nomadic seafarers who arrived to help them, several naga kingdoms consolidated, and escapees of the Valashai settled the Valashmai Jungle.1
