As of 4722 AR,1 the small, self-sufficient domain of Lambreth had been ruled by the despotic Lord Kamdyn Arnefax since 4675 AR. Throughout the River Kingdoms, Lambreth suffers the least from bandit attacks. Newcomers and troublemakers quickly draw the attention of the widely feared Black Eagles.23

Geography

Lambreth's northern border is defined by the Juviler Hills, while the West Sellen River forms its western boundary with Razmiran and Ustalav, and the Tolemaida River forms its eastern and southern borders with neighboring Daggermark and Tymon. The Raven Bridge across the Tolemaida River connects the eastern Lambreth village of Sezgin to Daggermark.2

History

Predecessor domains

At one time, the domain was known as Alban. It was overwhelmed by goblins in 4071 AR and became the barghest-ruled Kingdom of Zog. This came to an end in 4217 AR when the yellowtongue sickness swept through the region, crippling the kingdom. Weakened, it fell to a loose coalition of adventurers, river folk, and aiuvarins that same year.4 The goblins of Zog left behind many pits, delves, and hidden cave complexes that have yet to be explored.2

Rise of the Triunes

Lambreth rose from the union of three rival merchant families: the Cullertons, the Angelidis, and the Viscarra, who founded the city-states Maashinelle, Lockridge, and Sezgin, respectively. Fearing annexation from their neighbors, Leeoda Cullerton led a decade of negotiations between the families to form Lambreth in 4502 AR and rule it jointly as the Triunes of Lambreth.4

Arrival of Lord Arnefax

Kamdyn Arnefax arrived to Lambreth in 4674 AR. At that time, the River Kingdom was threatened by imminent invasion from neighbouring Razmiran. In desperation, the Triunes accepted Arnefax's demands that he become the ruler of Lambreth in exchange for his assistance in defeating the invaders. The Triunes believed Arnefax would either die in the attempt or be easily murdered and disposed of should he succeed.

Arnefax assembled an unlikely army of his household guards, Lambreth soldiers, refugees, and shadowy and infernal creatures, and launched a sneak attack on Razmiri forces on 26 Calistril, 4675 AR. His troops slaughtered the Razmiri cultists as they slept in a victory that became known as the Moonlight Massacre.

When Tandre Cullerton suggested a delay in recognising Arnefax's lordship, the victorious general killed him and his wife, and exiled the entire Cullerton family.5

Government

Lord Kamdyn Arnefax rules Lambreth as a merciless dictator. The Black Eagles, feared horsemen resembling dark versions of Andoran's Eagle Knights, act as the local militia, protecting the citizens, collecting taxes, and enforcing Lord Arnefax's rule. In addition, each village has its own council led by an elected mayor who makes requests and complaints to Lord Arnefax, although most are wary to do so.6

Foreign relations

Lambreth borders the theocracy of Razmiran, and this proximity has brought about a violent history between the two nations as Razmiran seeks to expand its land and influence through conversion.7 The Moonlight Massacre of 4675 AR, which established Lord Arnefax's control over Lambreth, was an ambush that he led against Razmiri cultists on the opposite banks of the West Sellen.4

Economy

Lambreth is most famous for its exported Cullerton wool, a popular and especially soft wool loomed in Maashinelle6 and shipped down the West Sellen River under the Black Eagles' protection.1
