Syggasis was a legendary immortal hydra that was killed by the Iblydan hero-god Aelyake during the Age of Destiny.1

History

The hero-god Aelyake encountered Syggasis while preparing the lands outside of Liachora for the founding of a new city prophesied by cyclopean seers. The two engaged in mortal combat, and Aelyake cut off each of Syggasis' heads to defeat it. She then proclaimed that a new city would be founded on the site of the battle, fulfilling the prophecy.

After one of Aelyake's followers pointed out the site's lack of drinkable water, the hero-god said, "Then we shall slake our thirst with the blood of the hydra." She then lifted her hands, which caused the site of each of the hydra's eight fallen heads to erupt with freshwater springs. Ever since, those eight springs have served as the eight major fountains of Aelyosos.1

Legends suggest that Aelyake buried Syggasis' decapitated body in what is now known as Pantheon Hill in Aelyosos. The hill is now home to many of the city's administrative buildings and residences. The soil contains unusually polished stones shaped like bones, though the hill's now-prominent structures would have to be demolished to confirm the myth.2
