Uddo
Uddo was the capital of the Teikoku Shogunate in what is now known as Minkai. It was conquered and razed by the armies of Kuga Setsuna during the Battle of Eight Bridges in 6116 IC; Minkai was founded three years later, with the downriver port city of Kasai as its capital.123456
Geography
Uddo was an inland city located on the banks of the Kamiteki River in the southwestern lands of what is now Minkai.78 It was known for the eight great bridges that spanned the Kamiteki River, which became the namesake of the battle that destroyed it. All of its residential tenements were burned or had become sunken in the river's waters.9
The shogunate's citadel was located directly on the river's banks, with a sprawling necropolis of the Teikoku family containing hundreds of chambers beneath it. While the citadel itself is destroyed, its foundations buried in the riverbank's mud, its necropolis has long remained a target of looters and explorers. The city's two other castles were also destroyed.10
As of 4712 AR, the ruins had become overgrown and the site of the city remains shrouded in mists.10
People
Uddo has long been home to the forest dragon Toishihebi, who lairs beneath the ruined castle of Matsukanmuri with his three sons, who are barbarians of half-dragon and half-lizardfolk ancestry. Locals avoid the site out of the belief that Toishihebi is the spiritual manifestation of Teikoku Takeru, a leader of the Teikoku Shogunate. These legends suggest Toishihebi was spawned when ratfolk looters disturbed an ancient sharpening stone, resulting in Toishihebi's nickname as the Whetstone Snake. This story—none of which is true—and the presence of other dangers near the site keep most people away from Uddo and make river travel past the site unnervingly tense.10
As of 4712 AR, the ruins of Uddo were the site of an ongoing conflict between Toishihebi and his humanoid thralls, which include humans, ratfolk, and lizardfolk; the tomb-defending monks of the Ashen Watch, an order that dates back to the Teikoku Shogunate; and a scouting party of earth yai11 who plan to claim the ruins for their purported mystical properties. However, this conflict is largely unknown to people outside of Uddo.10
