Three Craters is a metropolitan city-state located in the central reaches of the northern Deadshot Lands in Arcadia.12 A center of technological innovation, it exports machines,23 including the metallic climbers commonly used to traverse Segada's terraced geography.3

Geography

Three Craters is named for the three lakes near the city: the murky Oilpan, the clear Moon's Tear, and the mist-shrouded Lake Awnkawak. The Crownpeaks, a target of the city's voracious mining interests, are west of the city, and the city has important trade pacts with the skymetal-rich Land of the Northern Lakes that rely on iron-cobbled roads leading eastward.2

History

Air-powered firearms, now common in Arcadia, were first developed in Three Craters in 2973 AR.

In 4077 AR, a cabal of six oligarchs called the Smog Lords seized control over production in Three Craters. In 4399 AR, an army of constructs known as the Oil Nomads attacked Three Craters. Their defeat further solidified the Smog Lords' rule, and the runoff from the destroyed constructs polluted one of the three namesake lakes, which is now known as Oilpan.2

In addition to the effects of the Godsrain across the wider continent of Arcadia in 4724 AR, the rain also triggered explosive detonations of skymetals across the Three Craters that destroyed vast stocks of the metals, decimated the region's infrastructure, and reduced city districts to ruins. The Smog Lords then went to war over the remaining stocks, as well as over the Shattered Hand, a large fragment of Gorum's gauntlet ripe for mining but filled with monsters that landed in the region's center.4

Government

The city is ruled by the Smog Lords, a cabal of constantly bickering oligarchs who have held control for nearly 650 years.2

Economy

Three Craters is filled with factories that produce some of Golarion's most technologically advanced goods, and the Smog Lords who rule the city are named for the soot these factories emit into the air. The city heavily trades with the neighboring cities High Klesh, Latwaria, and Grassbutte, as well as with the Land of Northern Lakes to the northeast, from which Three Craters purchases incredibly valuable shipments of skymetals.

The city has an insatiable need for metal ores, and beyond mining interests in the Crownpeaks, the Smog Lords also hire divers to extract ores from Three Craters' namesake lakes.2

The effects of the Godsrain's detonation of the region's skymetals, destruction of city districts, war between Smog Lords, and the Shattered Hand's potential value on the city's economy have yet to be determined.4

People

Residents of Three Craters are cosmopolitan by nature, and firearms are so common in the city that nearly every resident knows how to own and operate one. They likewise consider bow-wielders to be quaint relics of a bygone era.

The city is populated mostly by humans, with significant minorities of halflings, ratfolk, and klinkois.2
