Sakalayo Peak

From PathfinderWiki

Sakalayo Peak is the tallest mountain in the Afoapi Range and is considered sacred by many residents of the Elemental Plane of Fire. It regularly boasts massive eruptions that drench the surrounding area in magma and are sometimes accompanied by damaging earthquakes. These vast eruptions make Sakalayo Peak a desirable and prestigious place to live for the fire-immune residents of the Plane of Fire, and its slopes are littered with countless impressive mansions and palaces,12 with the most daring residents building their homes inside the peak's caldera.2

Sakalayo Peak is a sacred place in some creation myths, some of which suggest the Plane of Fire was created from Sakalayo Peak's constant eruptions21 or that the entire Inner Sphere was the result of the volcano's first eruption.1 The peak attracts pilgrims from across the plane, elementals consider it an impressive feat to survive taking a dip in its caldera.21

Many pilgrims find themselves drawn to Ris, a salamander and relative newcomer to Sakalyo Peak who claims to be able to control the earthquakes that wrack it. Few took him seriously until he predicted a particularly violent earthquake at a point recent to 4713 AR. The peak's aristocratic residents, many of whom are ifrits from the City of Brass, resent the pilgrims as religious riff-raff intruding on what they view as their peak. The pilgrims are protected by the Polydipsian Guard, a collection of elder fire elementals who guarantee their access to bathe in the peak's magma pools.2
