Yen Hazai is the historical philosopher-monk who founded the Temple of the Endless Step in the Varisian city of Kaer Maga. He constructed the monastery along the city's outer walls overlooking the vast vista atop the Storval Rise. From there, he believed monks would gain a proper perspective about their small part in the greater world. It is told that one day he called his students together and simply stepped from an open window overlooking the Rise. Instead of falling to his death, he slowed his descent by delicately touching the wall numerous times, and landed gently thousands of feet below. From there he simply walked off and was never heard from again. His action was seen by his brother monks as a sign of true enlightenment. Many have tried to duplicate this feat over the many years of the temple's existence, but none have succeeded.1
