On Golarion

Like monkeys, baboons live in many parts of Golarion, including the Mwangi Jungle, Terwa Uplands2 and Qadira, particularly the Plains of Paresh.3

Baboons are trainable4 and can serve as animal companions and familiars to others.5 They are often adopted as companions by plains-dwelling Zenj hunters.6 A trained baboon can be purchased from a trainer for 15 gold pieces, or more if the animal is trained for combat.7

Baboons have been in the collection of the Absalom Menagerie.8

A literate awakened baboon was part of the Garden of Unearthly Delights in the city of Katapesh.9 Baboons formed a following around a pugwampi tribe at the Monastery of St. Vardishal in the Uwaga Highlands in northwestern Katapesh.10

The intelligent apes of Usaro bred and used baboons in a manner similar to hunting dogs in the jungles around the city.11 The Baboon Run river, one of the two rivers that form the Upper Korir River in the Mwangi Jungle, is named for the animal.12

Ancient Osirion

People of ancient Osirion kept pet baboons and mummified them on their or their owner's death. Baboons in ancient Osirion were often associated with the deity Thoth,13 who was sometimes depicted as a seated baboon or baboon-headed man.14 Artworks from that era depict baboons as having a crescent moon on their forehead, being led on leashes, or eating figs by climbing trees.13
