Mists of Mwangi, a Pathfinder Society scenario written by Nicolas Logue for tier 1-5, was released in October 2008. Alex Greenshields updated the scenario for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game rules in January 2011.

Pathfinder Lugizar Trantos recently returned from the Mwangi Expanse with haunted eyes and a pack full of strange idols. Absalom's famed Blakros Museum purchased his pieces and Lugizar vanished. The strange monkey idols he pulled from the misty jungles of Mwangi carry with them a fell curse, and now their power has laid claim to the museum. Can the Pathfinder Society uncover the source of the curse in time, or will the Blakros Museum be forever lost to the mists of Mwangi?

Background

In 4708 AR, Lugizar Trantos, a Pathfinder of mild renown, returned to Absalom from an expedition to the Mwangi Expanse. He brought with him a pack of strange monkey idols, which he sold to the Blakros Museum. Lugizar then vanished.

Unknown to all, the idols—known as Tik Taan—were dedicated to Angazhan, Demon Lord of Apes, and they carried the captured souls of tormented monkeys. The dark power of the Tik Taan placed the museum under a dangerous curse.

Adventure

Venture-Captain Adril Hestram has received word that the Blakros Museum is cursed, and assembles a team of Pathfinders to investigate. He hopes that Pathfinder intervention will curry favour with the museum's curator, Nigel Aldain, an old associate of the Society who had fallen out with it after a disagreement, and that Aldain's favour will make the museum's collection available for Pathfinder study.

Upon arriving at the museum, the Pathfinders discover it filled with a magical mist. Those who breathe the mist risk becoming "mist-tainted" and falling victim to the curse of the Tik Taan, which causes them to degenerate into a bestial state akin to a bloodthirsty animal.

Exploring the museum, the Pathfinders encounter several threats, including mummified corpses drawn back to life by the Tik Taan's curse; museum clerks named Kadarnik and Yannis, who have been made savage by the mists; a mist-ravaged museum watchman named Maldroog; a constrictor snake summoned from Absalom's sewers; and transformed vargouilles that the museum had mistaken for petrified masks.

Finally, the Pathfinders reach the Mwangi Exhibit and confront the Tik Taan. The idols are protected by a gang of primates recently escaped from the Absalom Menagerie, including a large gorilla named Da'Tunga. Aldain is under the idols' spell and preparing to sacrifice himself to Angazahn.

The Pathfinders defeat the idols, possibly by using the techniques of a Mwangi tribe called the Jambala Jaeg, who created ritual knives to slay the demons inside the Tik Taan. They then free the museum and Aldain from the Tik Taan curse.

As a result of the Pathfinders' actions, Aldain repairs his relationship with Adril Hestram and makes the Blakros Museum's collection available to Society members for study.
