Kutanju, also known as the Second Wall, is a settlement that occupies the second wall of the Matanji orc nation of Nine Walls in the depths of the Mwangi Jungle.1

Geography

In the nine ringed cities of Nine Walls, Kutanju is the second-outermost settlement of the Nine Walls, inward from the First Wall of Ukuja. While Kutanju is a large settlement in its own right, it is intrinsically linked with Ukuja; Kutanju provides Ukuja's soldiers with live combat training and serves as a prison for demons too powerful or dangerous to be slain.1

Nine Wall's prisons are in Kutanju to ensure that, for any of the powerful demonic prisoners who might escape, it is easier for them to escape outward into the surrounding jungle than to push further into the ringed fortress settlements of Nine Walls. Due to the number and power of these demonic prisoners, outsiders are not allowed access to Kutanju and are instead escorted along one well-fortified road lined with archers to proceed deeper into Nine Walls.2

Economy

Kutanju focuses on training young Matanji orc warriors and imprisoning demonic foes that are too powerful or dangerous to destroy. As a result of these twin purposes, much of the research regarding demonic behaviour and anti-demonic magic, strategies, and tactics for which the Matanji are renowned originates in Kutanju.2

Many lesser demons are kept within Kutanju with the express purpose of being released between the second and third walls to be hunted by younger, less experienced Matanji warriors. These warriors develop real hunting skills, but are perhaps not yet ready for full combat in the Mwangi Expanse's depths. These lesser demons are weak enough that they pose practically no threat to the veteran Matanji demon-hunters who oversee this training.3

Inhabitants

The only inhabitants of Kutanju are Matanji orcs and Witanji dromaars. They are split between younger warriors visiting Kutanju for training, and the veterans who teach them while guarding their demonic prisoners and maintaining the powerful and complex magic that detains them. The proportion of these veteran Matanji warriors here is therefore far higher than in neighbouring Ukuja.2
