Ukuja
- For another meaning of "Ukuja", please see Ukuja (person).
Ukuja, also known as The First Wall, is the outermost settlement of the Matanji orc nation of Nine Walls and a bastion for those opposed to demons and their influence within the Mwangi Expanse.1
Geography
Ukuja is designed for warfare, and is effectively as much an enormous fortress as it is a city. Ukuja is visually defined by the numerous watchtowers that line the city and look out across the outermost of the Nine Walls toward the Mwangi Jungle beyond. The walls of Ukuja are vital to their defense, as it is not unusual to see fighting taking place between the Matanji and the demon-loving charau-ka within sight of the outer walls.
The city itself is covered in barracks, expansive training grounds, and medical facilities to treat the wounded, and the sounds of war games, blades being sharped, and ancient exorcism rituals ring out across the city.
Between its fortress-like appearance and the constant warfare that surrounds it, Ukuja can be very intimidating for first time visitors, but in reality it is one of the safest places in the entire Mwangi Expanse. The exception to this is for any demons or demon-worshippers, including the Bekyar, whose culture is renowned for its rampant demon-worship.1
Inhabitants
Ukuja is primarily inhabited by younger Matanji orcs and Witanji dromaars, who serve as warriors on the first line of defense for Ukuja and Nine Walls. While young, these soldiers are still hardened and accustomed to war; they are in turn led by a smaller number of grizzled veterans.1
