Rubber is an elastic material of organic polymers harvested from certain types of trees.1

On Golarion

On Golarion rubber is used most innovatively in Arcadia, where liquid rubber—formed from mixing material harvested from native trees with oils—has a wide range of applications. Arcadian liquid rubber coatings can waterproof apparel and improve the traction of footwear. Rubber is also used in Arcadia to craft trinkets for games and sports,2 particularly the hard rubber balls used to play boundball.3

In the Mwangi Expanse, rubber can be made from the sap of sharinga trees.4 Zorbin Qular, keeper of the Ossum Lighthouse in Geb, is known to wear rubber boots.5

Rubber has electrically insulative properties and can be used to coat copper cables that conduct electrical current. Such methods have been used in parts of Ustalav to coat wires that harness electricity from lightning.6

Rubber is sometimes used in alchemical implements.78 Norgorberite alchemists of the deity's Blackfingers aspect have used rubber gloves and goggles as protective wear while crafting chemical poisons.9 Rubber-sealed facemasks with filters of charcoal10 or cloth can protect wearers from inhaled poisons, diseases, fungal spores, and other particulates.11 Rubber poison caps can store poison on the fangs of an otherwise non-venomous creature and deploy it when the creature bites.12

Rubber is also sometimes used to seal bottles of caustic solutions such as necrobane formaldehyde,13 to stop bottles containing living creatures or tissue,14 or to contain liquids and smells from butchering.15

For as little as 5 gp, the Summit & Sundry shop in Absalom's Grand Bazaar sells masks made of rubber that can be crafted to convincingly resemble another creature's face.16

In Nidal bloodseekers are harvested for their heads, which are processed in Pangolais and dipped in rubber sap to be used as syringes.17

Some spear-slings use a loop of elastic rubber to propel a spear or similar weapon across long distances or through water.18

During the Ironfang Invasion the Ironfang Legion developed and deployed sting grenades, some of which contained beads of hard rubber as projectiles.19

In magic

The rubberskin spell grants the elastic impact-absorbing properties of rubber to its subject's flesh and might use rubber as a material component.20

An uncommon form of wondrous figurine conjures a grizzly bear wearing a tutu and fez who balances on a rubber ball and reverts to statue form if it falls from its ball.21

A holy steam ball is crafted from hollow black rubber to seal evaporated holy water and incense smoke to be released when squeezed.22

The handle of a wand of paralytic shock is coated in thick rubber to insulate its wielder from electrocution.23

Some Kalistocrats of Kerse wear magical gloves of white rubber known as gloves of the keen evaluator that grant their wearers more accurate appraisals of an item's value and improved negotiating prowess.24

From distant worlds

Some robotic automatons of Numeria25 and technological items associated with the crash of the Androffan ship Divinity are composed in part of rubber.2627

Russian Earthlings deployed masks of rubberized cloth fitted with filter canisters capable of protecting their wearers from harmful gases.28

Some mi-go devices, such as their confabulation plates, use rubber.29
