This article covers the infernal duke. For the demon lord, see Nurgal.

Nergal is a merciless infernal duke associated with wartime atrocities, riding to battle with poison, plague, and fire to bedevil all soldiers.1

History

Nergal was created from the lesser half of the deity Nurgal, which plunged into Hell after Acavna clove him in two and sent both parts tumbling into the Maelstrom. The greater half, which fell into the Outer Rifts, kept the name Nurgal and became a demon lord, for whom Nergal maintains a seething jealousy.23
