Witchlight Vale

From PathfinderWiki

Witchlight Vale is a crater in western Numeria formed by an explosion that occurred nearly 7,000 years ago.12

History

In -3116 AR, about 1,250 years after the Rain of Stars, a Numerian chieftain explored the ruins of the fallen starship that would later be known as Silver Mount. During his expedition, the chieftain triggered an alien weapon that caused a massive explosion, instantly killing him and the rest of his tribe.12

The destruction was so thorough that the land and air around the site remained tainted with radiation as of 4714 AR. The alien energies have mutated the local wildlife.2

Legacy

This event started local taboos against the use of technology that persisted across Numeria's Kellid tribes for millennia to follow.12

Inhabitants

In addition to the mutated wildlife, stories tell of a nearly invisible creature emitting a silhouette of dim light that stalks the site and preys on intruders. Magic to help perceive or detect invisible beings fail to work on the creature, and despite leaving massive, deep tracks in its path the beast proves difficult to track.2

To warn people away from the site, druids placed menhirs bearing sigils and magical wards to keep wanderers out and confine the beasts within. However, the stones seem to have been moved or defaced over time, which suggests that the Vale contains intelligent creatures who do not wish to be contained.2
