Sotto is a tiny thorp in the Meratt County region of Taldor.

Geography

Sotto is located on the edge of the Verduran Forest. About a dozen homesteads comprise Sotto, all around a shared well. A dirt road connects the thorp to the town of Voinaris to the south.

Economy

Sotto is primarily a goat-herding settlement, with its residents also engaged in farming and logging.

Inhabitants

The population consists almost entirely of two extended families of goat herders. Some have claimed that the residents are cursed, because every few seasons wolves and other predators attack and steal large portions of their livestock. Others just think this is a clever ruse to avoid taxes from the Lotheeds.

In truth, Sotto was besieged from the spring of 4717 AR by a warg named Halmash who was offended by the town's tradition of hunting wolves. The warg killed Amallah, Sotto's preeminent wolf hunter, by tearing out her heart, and over the course of the next three days slowly ate her body and bones in the thorp's center.

Halmash subsequently dispatched wolves each full moon to collect either three goats or three children as payment. As of 4718 AR, Sotto's locals had not requested aid out of a combination of pride and fear of retaliation.
