Conquered Lands
The Conquered Lands1 are the newest region of the Hold of Belkzen after they were forcibly taken from Lastwall by armies of orcs that first overwhelmed Harchist's Blockade in 4482 AR, then who later pushed past the Hordeline in 4517 AR. Lastwall always failed to reclaim them, despite trying many times.2
Geography
The region encompasses the southernmost tip of Belkzen, including the fertile lands south of the River Esk, which pretty much forms the region's northern border. Other geographical features in the region include the Skittermounds; the Ghostlight Marsh in its east; and the Mindspin Mountains, which form its southern and western borders with Nirmathas and Varisia, respectively. The Kestrel River runs through the region's centre. The eastern border was with Lastwall but, now, it abuts the undead-haunted wasteland called the Gravelands, which is all that remains of the crusader kingdom.3
People
The Conquered Lands are home to various kinds of giant: fire, hill, marsh, merrows, and stone; as well as humans and orcs.2
Few orcs have settled in the Conquered Lands preferring to return to their ancestral lands to the north and, with Trunau being the only human settlement, the fertile plains in between the rivers Esk and Kestrel are pretty uninhabited despite their potential for agriculture.4
Places of interest
A sole survivor of the orc conquest is the town of Trunau in the south of the region. The devastation from the battles can be seen in the ruined fortifications that are left of Harchist's Blockade. Another Lastwall remnant in orc hands is Heliu's Folly in the north. Other non-orc controlled areas are the fire giant kingdom of Kragnaroth; the abandoned fort at Skull Hill; and the archaeological site at Sech Nevali.5
Flora and fauna
The well-watered plains of southern Belkzen support agriculture and the region, in general, is rich in game.2
