Degholaus, also known as treason demons, are demons formed from the souls of those who held positions of authority in their mortal societies but betrayed their people for their own gain, or to advance evil causes. Some might have even believed their actions were righteous, but later accepted and enjoyed the destruction they wrought.1

Appearance

A degholau resembles a clawed humanoid with bestial features, a mole-like face without eyes, and five tails each bearing a red eye.1

Abilities

Degholaus emit a smell of rotting wildflowers that also impairs the minds of other creatures around them. While this can make other creatures easier to manipulate, those who resist its effects damage the degholau's mind.

The tails of a degholau harm both the body and mind of a victim, and can poison a victim's mind with thoughts of conspiracies. Its black spit, which it can launch at range with accuracy, is cursed in a manner that changes the loyalties of a victim; at advanced stages, a religious victim's edicts and anathema become reversed.

Because deception is a fundamental part of a degholau's nature, disbelieving or confronting its falsehoods can frighten it and harm its mind.

Degholaus can also burrow through the ground, manipulate minds, teleport, and communicate telepathically. They can speak Chthonian, Draconic, and Empyrean.1
