Invidiak
Shadow demon
Invidiaks, also known as shadow demons, are sinister incorporeal demons who specialize in possession.1
Associated sin
Invidiaks are associated with the sin of envy.2
Appearance
An invidiak's true form resembles a cloud of darkness with bat-like wings and sharp claws.1
Abilities
An invidiak can fight with its claws, and has a number of magical abilities connected to manipulating shadows. They can also blend into any available shadows to effectively become invisible. They can possess many types of mortal creatures, including humanoids, aberrations, animals, and beasts, with each invidiak preferring a particular type of creature to possess. Being exorcised from their host harms invidiaks and prevents them from possessing another body for a full day.1
Habitat and ecology
Invidiaks are formed in the Outer Rifts from envious souls.1 They typically form groups of up to eight, and are known to flee from sunlight.3[citation needed]
Society
Invidiaks are believed to have once served the demon lord Vyriavaxus. When Nocticula slew their patron, they grudgingly transferred their services to her;4 as of 4724 AR the fate of Nocticula's invidiaks since she left the Midnight Isles is unclear.5 Some also serve the demon lord Shax.6
Summoning
Those seeking to summon an invidiak sometimes do so in areas of bright sunlight. This reduces the invidiak's power but is guaranteed to enrage it.7
