Cairns

The Cairns are a Kellid slum located in the Ustalavic capital city of Caliphas.

Structure

The Cairns consists of several tightly packed tenement blocks as well as scores of shacks and shanties, but its name comes from the connected basements of many of these buildings that form an elaborate warren of shared underground spaces.

Several scrap menhirs made of wood and metal stand among the Cairns and imitate the ancient stone structures that dot Ustalav. These menhirs are marked with carvings indicative of links to an outlawed ancient Kellid religion.

Government

The Cairns is led, in the loosest sense of the word, by the noseless crone Brynran Khoraseid, a powerful oracle who is the Cairns' oldest resident and regarded as a maternal figure by most who live there.
