The death of Gorum occurred in 4724 AR. The deity's violent execution at the arms of Achaekek began a series of events that would become known as the Godsrain.12
Instigating events
Having judged that his own existence fostered evil in the mortal realms of the Universe, Gorum met in secret with Calistria to engineer his own demise. The only payment she requested was the truth of what was within Gorum's armor, which the Lord of Iron confirmed was nothing but the violent urges of mortality.3
Calistria communicated this to Achaekek with the implication that Gorum was a pretender to divinity, which represented an affront to Achaekek worth punishing with death.3
A group of Red Mantis assassins were dispatched to Glacier's Rest in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings to kill General Ordulf Bladecaller, an Ulfen Gorumite warlord suspected of planning an armed, illegitimate takeover of Trollheim.4 The job was a ploy to betray the assassins, part of a larger plot between members of the Red Mantis' ruling Vernai and Blood Mistress Jakalyn, but its success also drew the attention of Gorum's valkyries and the First Blade, herald of the Lord in Iron.5
A member of the Vernai responsible for the betrayal of Bladecaller's assassins traveled to Gorum's realm of the Clashing Shore in Elysium in anticipation of the culmination of this plot, and the assassins that were betrayed pursued. During the following confrontation, Bladecaller's slayer drew Gorum's attention.6

While distracted, Achaekek emerged from the waters of the Clashing Shore, ambushed Gorum, and killed him. Achaekek's killing blows pierced Gorum's armor from behind before tearing him asunder. Gorum's destroyed armor revealed that nothing inhabited it before it then exploded, casting shrapnel bearing traces of his divinity across reality and onto every realm of the Universe where Gorum was worshiped, including Golarion. This was the instigating event of what would become known as the Godsrain.1
The involvement of Achaekek in Gorum's death created a crisis of faith among the Red Mantis assassins at the same time as a failed coup attempt that has left the assassins' guild's leadership disorganized and distracted.17
Upon Gorum's death, a beam of blinding red light was emitted from the inside of his armor toward the Maelstrom. The result of this emission is not known.1
Divine conflicts
Gorum's death spurred many other violent deities to attack or kill other divine entities. For example, reports from the Pathfinder Society documented how the empyreal lord Smiad recruited Gorum's servant Saint Fang to kill dozens of evil dragons within days. Dahak soon slew them both in retaliation.8 The empyreal lord Cernunnos hunted the draconic deity Garhaazh but fell through a hole in reality, a trap set mid-hunt by his prey, and was cast beyond the bounds of the Dark Tapestry.9
According to Amenopheus, Nethys and Thoth battled over a source of power in the Inner Sea north of Sothis, with Nethys emerging as the victor and Thoth cast away from Golarion. A whirlpool appeared at the site of the battle and became the ritual site for a coven of the hag goddesses Gyronna, Mestama, and Alazhra, which spurred the Osirian deities Ra, Horus, Anubis, Osiris, Maat, and Isis to rise in opposition of them. The old gods of Osirion seemed doomed to failure until Gyronna briefly stuttered while reciting their ritual, an error that offered enough of a chance for the Osirian deities to disrupt the ritual. All nine gods vanished, their fates unknown.10
