Light of a Distant Star is a novella in six parts written by Pathfinder Tales author Bill Ward set in the Varisian city of Riddleport. The story was released in print throughout the Shattered Star Adventure Path in 2012 and 2013 and as a digital download in October 2013. The novella features many of the same characters as Ward's Pathfinder Tales web fiction story, "The Box", including Kostin, Taldara, and Shess.

Taldara is a Pathfinder, a scholar—and a thief. Which of these roles define her is a vexing question. Luckily for her, she's too busy trying to stay alive to contemplate it. Caught between a Pathfinder mission to retrieve a long-lost journal from a dangerous and secretive dwarf, her friends' involvement with Riddleport's most dangerous gangs, and the insidious forces behind the pirate city's newest drug trade, Taldara will need to rely on all of her disparate skills in order to survive the night...
