Wolves are predatory canines that hunt alone or in packs and are quite territorial. They vary is height from two-and-a-half feet to three feet at the shoulder and generally weigh anywhere between 45 to 150 pounds. Females of a species tend to be slightly smaller than the males. Their coats range widely in color from grey to brown or even black among some species. Their most well-known feature is their mournful howl, with which they communicate to pack members and other wolves.2[citation needed]
