Recent history

Since the site's rediscovery, multiple groups have led expeditions into its upper levels in attempts to explore or plunder it, including the Pathfinder Society and Aspis Consortium. The site has also become a focus of academic research, sometimes in conflict with explorers. The government of Cheliax enacted strict access controls at the top of the pillar-shaped site.5

In late 4715 AR, the smuggler ship Bygone Tides inadvertently opened a fissure near the site while dropping anchor in shallow water to hide from a Chelaxian Navy patrol. The fissure was reported by the two survivors of the ensuing magma blast while in respite in Corentyn, and led directly to the ruins' lower levels, which had to date been inaccessible.5

As of that discovery, those lower levels were locked in a years-long battle for control between a morlock band and devils, led respectively by the shaman Garpesfek and the horned devil Curtagiak.5
