Monarchy (Korvosa)

From PathfinderWiki
Queen Ileosa and her retinue.

The monarch of the Varisian city-state of Korvosa rules the town and its dependent settlements from the Crimson Throne in Castle Korvosa.1

History

As a former colony of Cheliax, the city was long ruled by a series of lord magistrates beginning with one of the city's founders, Jakthion Korvosa.2 This abruptly changed during the Chelaxian Civil War, when the mother country lost interest in its dependency, and Korvosa's citizens decided to change Lord Magistrate Eodred Arabasti's title to king in 4644 AR.3

Lineage

As magistrates of Fort Korvosa (4407–4504 AR)

As magistrates of Korvosa (4504–4644 AR)

As monarchs of Korvosa (4644 AR —)

Powers

Compared to other monarchs, the kings and queens of Korvosa share power with and are checked by the other governmental entities within the city: the arbiters, the Sable Company, the Korvosan Guard, the Order of the Nail, the Magistrates, the Seneschal of Castle Korvosa, and the Peerage Review.9
