Primal dragon
Update needed |
Primal dragons are one of the four categories of traditional dragons, or magical dragons;1 primal dragons are associated with the primal magical tradition. Primal traditional dragons derive their power from the magic of the natural world, and seem to embody the most bestial traits among dragons. Many of them choose to act as keepers of their habitats.2
The term can also refer to the primal dragon family, a classification of magical dragons that are native to certain planes of the Great Beyond: Elemental Planes and the Netherworld. The primal dragons of the Elemental Planes are elemental creatures themselves.3
Other magical dragons associated with the primal tradition include the forest dragons of the imperial dragon family.4 Less commonly, some imperial sky dragons draw primal power from winds, rain, lightning, and thunder.5
