Rahk Lo (pronounced rahk loh) is both a reclusive city and nation of hobgoblins in the Darklands of Tian Xia.

Rahk Lo had long been the subject of rumors as its people had made no contact with the surface for more than a century, but it returned to public attention ca. 4721 AR when it was unintentionally discovered by General Azaersi of the Avistani hobgoblin nation of Oprak.

Society

The people of Rahk Lo have flourished in the harsh depths of the Darklands through the rigidity of their societal structure. Every hobgoblin is assigned a role that in some way supports Rahk Lo. Each hobgoblin is assigned a position from a huge range of roles, such as food gatherer, miner, alchemist, or soldier, that they are expected to dedicate their lives to.

Rigid as this is, every hobgoblin of Rahk Lo also knows that they can rely on the support of other citizens, and sharing knowledge is innate to their way of life. While the hobgoblins of Rahk Lo are happy to learn from and trade with outsiders, their regimented life within the harsh Darklands has made them capable of unbelievable brutality toward outsiders if it enhances their odds of survival.

Inhabitants

Rahk Lo is a hobgoblin kingdom, and its population in almost entirely composed of hobgoblins. Rahk Lo's alchemists have created many unique alchemical concoctions to improve life in the harsh Darklands, including substances that help them sustain their crops. The defenders of Rahk Lo often ride into battle on the backs of giant bats and centipedes.

Foreign relations

Rahk Lo recently established contact with the distant and newly formed hobgoblin realm of Oprak in Avistan. This occurred after Oprakan delvers, using the powerful artifact known as the Onyx Key, stumbled upon it while trying to reach Kaoling. The city also has routes to the land above that connect it to both Kaoling and Shanguang.
