Obari is a male Vudran god and the twin brother of Embaral. The Embaral and Obari Oceans, to the east and south of Vudra respectively, are named for the brothers.12

History

See also: Embaral

Vudran myth holds that Obari and his brother Embaral were once deities of the oceans; Embaral preferred the stability of land, while Obari relished in travel and exploration. During his quests for a purpose at the frontiers of his domain over the oceans, Obari courted the goddess Vudravati with tales of his vision for their shared future.2

However, Vudravati also slowly fell in love with Embaral for his patient, persistent nature, and although she took both as lovers, they fought so fiercely out of jealousy that Vudravati feared they would kill each other and wreak havoc across the world.32 Other deities of the oceans tried and failed to intervene, with several dying, losing their immortality, or fleeing Golarion in the process. Others formed the first bays, seas, peninsulas, and islands to shelter mortals and diffuse the brothers' wrath.2

To separate them until they could reconcile, she lay between them and went to sleep, her body forming the land of Vudra.32 She birthed children of both Obari and Embaral while in this slumber, who are believed to be the Vudrani peoples of today.3

This account suggests that Vudra has been in existence longer than Golarion's continents were in their current places. Most foreign scholars, however, dismiss such claims as exaggeration. Whatever the truth, the Vudrani see themselves as the scions of gods, and thus Obari as one of their progenitors.3

After Vudravati entered her slumber, Obari unleashed typhoons and tsunamis to attempt to wake her, and to express his anger. However, as her slumber continued he developed a dedication toward helping those who also sought their dreams on distant shores.4

Home

Obari's divine realm is a hidden home deep under the Obari Ocean, though he is often traveling oceans across the Universe or its deepest cosmic extents.4

Appearance

When he manifests to mortals, Obari most often takes the form of a barrel-chested, smiling Vudrani man bearing a prominent tattoo of his religious symbol, a broken ship's anchor. He often appears within crowds to witness ships departing for or arriving from a journey at sea.4

Church of Obari

Obari's travels often prevent him from communicating with his worshippers until he returns, and those who find his realm can entreat him to answer their prayers or grant miracles. He believes that once his following has spread across Golarion and achieved all of the things he once dreamed of for himself and Vudravati, his long-lost love would reawaken and express her love exclusively for him.4
